After receving a BSc from the UK's Warwick University in Accounting and Financial Management in 1979, Alan joined Neville Russell (now Mazars), qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1982. While at Neville Russell, he specialized in the audit of Lloyd's Syndicates, Brokers and Agents, together with Non-Life Insurance Companies. In mid-1988 he joined a Lloyd's Broker as Financial Controller. In December 1990 he joined FMCB Management Consultants Limited, becoming a Director in January of 1994. He became a consultant to Websters in January 1996.

In February 1998, Alan joined Websters as Financial Controller, becoming Financial Director and Company Secretary in May 1998, a Director of Websters France SAS in June 2001, and CFO of Websters Multimedia Inc. in July 2006. Alan is responsible for all of the day-to-day financial functions both for the publishing and multimedia divisions in the UK and for all Websters' overseas operations.
